derelict smudging

Images gathered at an exhibition at Safehouse 1, “arrhythmias” in 2025. Composed of one large image of a section of a wall within the site, 5 other images of other areas nested within the debris.

Fixing my longing for the sea

Cyanotype photograph from Sentler’s 2013 installation mix-media work “See, Sea”, https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/78930200 The photograph revisited in response to the prompt, with a poetic text by the author printed in the currents of the image.

fluid flag

‘fluid flag’ is composed of 6 diverse cyanotype images of photographs of past seas I have experienced that were part of my 2013 multi-media installation work “See, Sea”. I sliced them horizontally, layering them into linear strips composing the flag. The patterning of the varied sea currents allow the ‘lines’ a folding, disrupting and softening the more geometrical designs which are attributed to a flag.

a seeded palm

A photo of my palm with a porcelain seed, from Ai Wei Wei's installation 'Kui Hua Zi' (Sunflower Seeds). I found it in a crack (a year later) in the TATE Modern Turbine Hall during a break rehearsing for Tino Sehgal's work 'These Associations' in 2012. I treasure it. The sunflower seed representing growth and resilience, seeding the lines of my palm.

an artist…

In response to the question, I wrote a series of activities necessary in artmaking, coupled with a collaged image used as the first clip of my 2021 video work “fold.fall.nest.” https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/561848994. It was created for bulanujung: Against Disimagination, an experimental curatorial platform with an interest in moving images and exhibition making. The image yielding a visualisation of the written script. Dancer in image, Valerie Lim.

tuning to page 37…

Randomly opened my copy of Pauline Oliveros’s book, “Quantum Listening”. Two sentences resonated: Listening is key to performance. Hearing is the passive basis of listening. This writing coupled with 2 of my past daily drawings, considering noticing as listening.

loud in reverse, a swimming breath

The image is a screenshot from film 1 of “See, Sea” 2013. https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/72357714 My durational installation work exploring multiplicity of ritual and image triggered by an episodic memory. Within it, a deconstruction of my swimming ritual is explored through a mixed media palette. Within film 1, a surreal lens is created, the dancer, Irina Baldini, morphing from a domestic interior into multiple landscapes of seas, of past sensorial embodiments. The screenshot image captures the dancer engaging in an expansive intake of breath, overlaid, submerged in the sea. The breath, a shout, a scream in reverse.
