Conversational

Seed heads are attached to the top of a strip of chicken wire so they read as having small conversations between themselves.

Caught Up

A bunch of tangled dog rose stems are held on a square of chicken wire to project into the space. 5 of the stems fly outward suggesting spider legs and add a touch of elegance to the muddle of briers.

Outside In

photo of the sky and chimney pot was copied, with one of the images turned upside down. They were then placed together, next to each other, with the sky sandwiched in the middle . The bit of chimney pot in each photo connected, making a strange flying object or bird, with a surprising quality.

Sci-fi Fix

Strange reflected light appeared around the door knob like a glowing halo which was captured on camera. It could only be seen from the exact spot I was sitting in, spooky ! hehe

Untitled Flags

All the flags of the world are presented several times against a background of a garden to embrace all peoples and see our planet as one resource. The flags in small scale read as multi coloured pixels.

bEGINNINGS

2 HORIZONTAL WINDOWS ARE CUT IN CHICKEN WIRE WITH THE LOWER EDGES FORMING SHELVES. WAVY DAISY STEMS WITH SEED HEADS ARE PLACED ONTO THESE. THE WORK READS AS 2 BLACK LINES, IE THE STEMS, THRUSTING FORWARD WITH A BRIGHT PATCH, THE WINDOW, BEHIND THEM.

All of Us ( or Pick Me )

Cut out hands made from newspaper are placed on a wall reaching up, perhaps waving or calling attention to themselves.

Calling

4 stiff brown paper bags are opened up and laid half on their sides. They are then held down by placing a piece of brick inside each one. They appear like open mouths suggesting giant hungry chicks or perhaps singers singing their hearts out.

Unseen Cats

I blindfolded myself the drew 9 cats selecting a different coloured felt tip pen that I couldnt see. The result was a set of character cats who seemed to be in mad conversations with each other. The limbs, tail and features were somewhat adrift and overlapping other marks adding to the craziness of the personalities.

Finger Lickin Good

I dipped my finger in lots of different foodstuffs such ass jam, coffee, butter etc and then made a fingerprint of each dip, on a piece of paper, loosley following straight lines one above the other. The grease in the foodstuffs such as butter and peanut butter spread around the finger prints into blobs and circles looking like messy and sticky finger blobs. Most appeared in pale, possiblypastel like colours.

Yellow Bean Tree Song

6 yellow bean tree seed pods are lined up on a wall using discreet nails and then below them another similar line is formed. The seed pods are fine long thin black ( dark brown) with a slight curve at one end and a tiny bit of hooked stalk at the other end. One or 2 of the seed pods are lower or raised imitating musical notes and giving the work the semblance of a musical score. The fine thin seed pods are also reminiscent of a conductors baton, with the work having an ethereal elegance.

Bejewelled

4 different sized black looking seeds are each arranged in a circle looking like bracelets, necklaces or planets, a constellation, sparkling.

Untitled recycled fruit packaging

Recycled nets from supermarket fruit packs are opened up and hung on nails. The tops of the nets are stretched to keep them open creating a darker straight line whilst the bottom half hangs freely. The work reads as curious wine glasses or vases, containers of some sort.

UPLIFT

TThe fingerprint drawing using foodstuff was taped to a window, high up to maximise the bright sky. The greasy areas glowed, like big white circular glowing blobs of snow. The image shows it taped against the backdrop of my garden presenting the process as well as the finished work.

Retribution

A dried leaf is attached to a stick so that it protrudes from one end. The leaf is chestnut coloured and is broad with 5 sharp triangular points with serrated edges. The work reads as if the leaf is an axe head, the stick the handle, positioned at an angle it is a kind of reversal of cutting down the tree, now the tree cuts down something, climate change regulation ?

Early Figure Drawing

2 simplified figures are drawn by placing ad hoc objects like buttons, batteries, twigs etc to resemble children’s first drawings, ie arms and legs coming off the head. The work appears absurd and humorous with a manic presence.

Thinking of Home

Photo of a reflection of my kitchen in one of the shiny cupboard doors looks pale and dreamy.

Framed by Nature

An image of trees and sky is copied and then the 2 are locked together as one ,like a reflection of one another. This is digitally inverted so the opposite colours appear, and white becomes black, leaving a black tree like shape in the middle of the image, formerly the skies, edged by tree silhouettes.

Looks

6 pairs of glasses are set on different drinking glasses which can be interpreted as faces looking or staring, playing with the idea of looking harder/better or looking away.

Shadow Land

Sticks are balanced on top of a thin stip of curvy chicken wire so they rest aloft casting spooky shadows beneath them. The wire becomes almost invisible on the grey floor adding mystery to the work/image.

Hello

2 people are drawn using garden debris with large leaf heads, seeds, stalks, feathers and twigs and have a cheerful humorous child like quality.

Mix

Objects were stacked taking turns and photographed then manipulated and passed between us and further worked, the outcome being a jumble of shapes that were primarily yellow and black.

Tin Pan Tune

A photograph of washing up, clean and piled up was repeated and ended up looking like tin pan drums and brass instruments - saucepans and taps in the mêlée gave this effect. The idea is that the washing up is just about done.

Parting Ways

A photograph of the view through a car windscreen as it travelled down the motorway was used to mirror itself by copying it 4 times. 2 images were placed side by side with the second image flipped or reversed horizontally so it was like a mirror image. A copy of this was then turned upside down and added above the first pair so this was a second mirror image. The effect was the views of the road separating, peeling apart from each other with a strange echo of itself above.
