Analysis and interpretation of data gathered through our Applied: Partnership, providing a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape in which artists work

Applied: Insight reports helps policymakers, funders, higher education, local councils and government make decisions on how to support working artists’ careers and access to work. They provide a deep, data-informed understanding of what it means to sustain and grow a creative career.
Through focused snapshots in time, comparative analysis across data gathered from our Applied: Partnership, combined with other research in and around the arts and culture, Applied: Insights make clearer the key questions and situations that affect artists’ lives and work.
Insights reports to date include:
- Who Gets To Be An Artist?: co-authored with UAL’s Social Purpose Lab and using Applied data, the report considers whether access to a career in this vital industry is equitable and accessible. Presented to All Party Parliamentary Group in November 2025.
- Artists’ Earnings: changes to sources and levels of income for artists between 2022 and 2024, reflecting on the cost of living and post-COVID economic landscape.
- Disabled artist and cost of living: while all artists experience precarious careers, Disabled artists experience of poorer mental health, lower income and savings, more debt and fewer opportunities, mean they are at greater risk of exclusion.
