Artists in England can get advice and information from the Artquest team on any aspect of their art practice and career.
How it works
1. Search our website
- Over 80% of the questions we’re asked are answered on our website.
- Your answer might be among the 12,000 pages we already have.
Our website has been gathering the answers to artists questions since 2001. Every question we’ve ever been asked has been turned into an article, an audio guide, report, research or Directory listing.
2. If you don’t get the results you need, send a message to our team after the search.
We get back to most questions within 5 working days. Depending on the complexity of your query we might:
- Email you back with an answer, links, or suggestions
- Arrange a short video or telephone call to find out more and give information
- Suggest another organisation to contact that can help you instead
What can I ask Artquest?
The professional visual artists employed by Artquest as our staff team have over 70 years’ combined experience. If you’re an artist working in England, we can give you tailored advice and information on any aspect of your working life. If we can’t help you directly, we can send you to other services in England that can.
You can ask us any question relating to your professional practice as an artist including:
- Contracts and copyright
- The public gallery sector and artist-led spaces
- Peer mentoring
- Funding applications – although we can’t support you to write an application.
- Collaboration and co-operatives
- Studio agreements
We might direct you to another organisations for more detailed information, such as:
- Engage, the national association of gallery education
- ixia, the public art think tank on best practice in commissioning
- Sound and Music, for new music and sound art
- Film London Artists Moving Image Network, for moving image and gallery-based film
We aim to get back to all enquiries within 5 working days, giving our small, part-time team a chance to research an answer and discuss your issue confidentially.
What can I not ask Artquest?
We are not able to give:
- Legal advice. Artquest is not a legal advice provider, and any information we provide, including on our website, should not prevent you from seeking legal advice from a qualified lawyer or solicitor where necessary.
- Ongoing mentoring or support. You could check our listings of artist mentors, peer mentoring, or artist networks instead.
