Online articles drawing together the art world with wider social, economic and cultural issues

The Artquest Almanack (2018-2020) was an online journal that drew together the art world with wider social, economic and cultural issues, setting the arts in a broader context. Intended to be an annual publication, it was replaced with our ongoing Research & Insights work.
Highlighting an annual theme and collecting together texts, research and projects, it published articles and interviews commissioned by Artquest alongside research beyond the art world.
The Almanack aimed to broaden debates in the arts by combining arts research with external evidence on economic and social trends. It also highlighted artists’ motivations and methodologies on the rest of society.
In 2018 the theme was space – studios, galleries, and the political spaces artists take up. In 2019 we featured articles around work – looking at what work means to artists, the future possibilities of work, and how artists work is valued.
Our 2020 theme was intended as equity before the COVID-19 pandemic shifted our focus from usual programming to emergency interventions for artists. The Almanack was retired in late 2020 with the focus instead now on our ongoing Research & Insight work.
