Read these FAQs before registering to participate in the 30/30 crits
Can I participate in these crits if I did not register for 30/30?
No. These crits are for 30/30 participants only. Other Artquest Crits are run throughout the year that anyone can take part in. Subscribe to our newsletter or visit the Artquest Crits page for more information on these.
When will the crits take place?
The 30/30 Artquest crits will take place on
- Crit 1: Monday 24 February: 7 – 9.30pm
- Crit 2: Friday 28 February: 10am – 12.30pm
- Crit 3: Sunday 2 March: 10am – 12.30pm
Can I register to participate in more than one session?
No. We anticipate very high demand for these sessions and can only accommodate a maximum of 12 artists per crit. Please only register for one session.
Do you operate a waitlist for sessions?
Yes, if we have people dropping out we will contact people on the waitlist. This may be at very short notice to keep an eye on your email.
What if none of those time slots are usually convenient to me because of other regular commitments?
This year we have increased the number of crits we’re running and provided a wider range of timeslots. We hope that one of these will work for you, but remember that these crits do book out very quickly.
How will I know if my registration is successful?
Once you have successfully completed registration form you will be directed to a Thank you page. You will also receive an automated email with further information once you have registered for the crits successfully. Check your spam folders for this. You will be assigned to a breakout group and provided information on how to join the Zoom meeting. You may find it easier to open a free Zoom account in advance of the 30/30 crit taking place, as you will have to confirm your email address.
Once I have booked onto a crit can I change to different crit time?
No. These crits book out very quickly and it’s unlikely we’ll able to slot you in to another session.
Is there a selection procedure and on what basis are artists selected to participate?
No, any artist participating in 30/30 is able to register to participate. Places will be allocated first come, first served on the basis. Crit sessions become unwieldy with too many participants so it’s necessary to limit the numbers of artists in each session.
Who else will be participating in the crit?
Crits will be attended by 30/30 participants. They will be artists at different stages of their career, working in different media. Smaller breakout groups will be made by matching artists with similar concerns, areas of interest in their practice, and media. You will be asked to indicate areas of interest / media when you apply.
Can I decide which breakout group I want to participate in?
We allocate participants to breakout groups in advance to save time. We do this on the basis of your application. It will not be possible to change these allocations. If there’s an artist not in your breakout group that you’d like to talk with more, exchange contact details and follow up after. Depending on feedback from participants, we will evaluate and trial new forms of meeting.
I want to take part but I don’t want to present work. Is that OK?
No. Everyone who attends will be asked to present something and to give feedback to others.
Since registering to attend the crit, I haven’t submitted work by the deadline and I am no longer participating in the 30/30 project. Can I still attend?
Yes. If you registered to participate in 30/30 you can participate in the crit, even if you’ve since been kicked off the project for not submitting work by the deadline.
Where else can I meet artists?
You can meet artists through Artquest Exchange, which you signed up to when you registered for 30/30. Artquest’s online community, or via other social networks. See our online social networking guides for more.
What can / should I present?
You should present any piece of work that you have made during the 30/30 project that it would be helpful for you to get feedback on.
Can I present work that I have made outside of 30/30?
No. Please only present work you’ve made during the project.
What format will work be shown in?
Facilitators will screenshare the work as it appears from your Exchange profile page.
Please bear in mind that, because of the quick-fire nature of the session, sharing long durational works will not be practical. If you attend a session you will be able to connect with other artists, share contact details, and follow-up with other crits in your own time.
What do I need to participate?
To participate you will need a Zoom account and a computer with access to the internet and video calling. There is more guidance on how to use Zoom here. Artquest Crits are conducted in English.
What should I do if have registered for a crit but can no longer participate?
If you can no longer participate please email Nick Kaplony with as much notice as possible and we’ll offer the place to someone else.
I still have questions
If you still have questions that are not answered, please email Nick Kaplony.
